5x The Best Roof Top Bars in Marrakesh

The Best Roof Top Bars in Marrakesh

Ah, the roof top bars in Marrakesh. The ultimate way to escape an ever chaotic Medina, which -don’t get me wrong- definitely has its charms. It is however not quite suited for those who are looking for tranquility and relaxation, as these lively streets will feed the curious throughout their stay. But luckily, Marrakesh offers a way out, just for a moment. When stepping in to the following 5 cafes and restaurants, where the hectic is left behind and one can take in all the colorful beauty that this diverse old city has on offer – from above.

1.Nomad

This trendy decorated restaurant, located right in the center of the Medina, is hands down one of the favorite rooftop bars we’ve ever set foot in  The atmosphere is fascinating and with three floors -two of which are outdoors- you will be able to view the old city from above from many different angles. During nighttime the light beamed edges of the rooftop and its lit lanterns under the open sky have an incredibly romantic feel to it. Reservations do come in handy as this place draws the crowd, especially during high season.

An extensive three course dinner, including four sodas and coffees, will set you back 588 Moroccan Dirham, which equals 61.12 US Dollar.

2. Atay Cafe Food

This multi-level little gem offers the ideal combination of good food, good shade and good views. One cannot help but getting a hint of those Ibiza vibes with the wicker lamps floating in mid-air and the hints of color that are alternated with natural shades throughout. The seating areas get smaller the further up you wish to go, so being there early ain’t a bad idea if you want to be guaranteed of a good spot to start gazing at the city and of course – the biggest eye-catcher of all – the mosque.

For this lunch with a view – which consisted out of a taijne, omelette, two coffee, juice and tea- we paid roughly 200 Moroccan Dirham, which equals 21.13 US dollar.

3. Café Des Épices

Café Des Épices, located just minutes away from its sister Nomad, offers equally beautiful views of a colorful square. An open space that almost feels like a relieve when making your way to the vibrant, but narrow, streets of the souk. This lovely place has a more of a casual vibe to it, making it perfect for daytime meals or some Moroccan whisky. (Read:tea)

Total costs of our lunch came down to 202 Moroccan Dirham, equaling 21.34 US dollar. And it was a LOT. Next to the meals it included a juice, two coffees and a large soda.

4.  Souk cafe

The bright and playful rooftop bar of Souk cafe was such a pleasant surprise. We actually ended up here by accident, as normally we carefully look for places we want to eat on forehand. But this time, after hours of strolling through the Medina, we needed some energy ASAP, and then there appeared Souk cafe. Where we honestly ate the best Taijne we had throughout our stay! The beef taijne, topped of with apricot was finger licking good, and the terrace itself was lovely during the day. Don’t expect spectacular views of the Medina, but the food alone is reason enough to stop by.

Total costs for our meal -consisting out of two taijnes, two juices, two sodas and coffees- was roughly 340 MAD/35.92 US dollar.

5. Le Jardin

Soaked in emerald green, Le Jardin, is a sight for sore eyes.  The across the street neighbor of Souk Cafe features a combination of Moroccan and European chic interior, and is garden themed throughout. The relaxed atmosphere alone is why Le Jardin should be on top of your to-do list, either by day or by night. However, for the more romantic ‘dinner-in-the-garden-by-candle-light’ idea, nighttime is definitely advised.

For dinner at this lush green restaurant we paid 529.20 Moroccan Dirham , which is 55.91 US dollar. We, again, ordered extensively and this included a two-course diner, four sodas, coffee and a juice.

Bondi Craze – What To Do in Bondi Beach

Best things to do in Bondi Beach

Australia’s most iconic beach and, attached, an evenly iconic pool. Well, you’ve probably guessed we’re talking about the world renowned Bondi Beach. When walking on this incredibly large beach you can’t help but feel like you have been there before. Probably due to the ton of movies and series that have been recorded here over the past decade. But still, there is something about it. So, is Bondi even worth the visit when in Australia? YES. Well it might be big, touristy  and loud. It is Bondi Beach.

Grab yourself some serious sunscreen, let’s say SPF 50 at least if you do not want to end up completely burned, and enjoy the extremely strong Australian sun rays whilst watching the surfers making their way to the waves.  For those who become extremely restless after an hour of beach time (which would be me) there are tons of activities to do around Bondi Beach. First of which would be strolling around the Bondi boulevard, walking past the illustrious graffiti wall and, if you’re lucky, admiring talented street artists at work. You’ll know when you’re at the end of the boulevard when you reach the outdoor gym at the northern end of the beach. Which is where most of the Bondi Beach body’s are made, an attraction on its own if you ask me.

So until now, what is it going to cost you to visit Bondi Beach? Not a thing, yet. Except for maybe an ice-cream to cool down a bit from the Australian heat at Anita’s when walking back to the start of the boulevard. As ice-cream fanatics I can honestly say they serve among the best ice-cream we have ever had, not even mentioning the interior of the shop.

And then… a visit to the not to be missed, Bondi Icebergs itself. This beauty of a pool draws quite the crowd, but not as many tourists as one might think. The pool doesn’t feature any sun beds or relaxation area’s what so ever. (or you must think of the rocks as relaxation areas, I for one do not, at least not for longer than ten minutes) Which is probably done to keep the pool suitable for the dozens of swimmers that do their laps their on a daily basis. Which is a good thing, so you will have to do all of your chilling back on the beach or in the Bondi Icebergs club/restaurant. Where you can have dinner/lunch or drinks with a phenomenal view. The entrance for the pool is AUD 6.50 and allows you acces to the sauna area as well.

Not in the mood to take a dip? Take your pictures, and move along towards the end of Bondi Icebergs, were you’ll find the start of the Bondi to Coogee walk. Which is one of the most amazing coastal walks we have ever done. The walk itself will take you up to an hour, depending on how fast you walk. It took us forever, but then again we were amazed at every turn so the amount of stops piled up rather quickly.

Make sure to do the walk, at least once, during either sunset or sunrise. During sunset it tends to get quite crowded, with tourists as well as with joggers. But then again, sunset means waking up at five.. If you’re not a morning person that choice is easily made.

Wrapping up, Bondi, and its surroundings, will leave you with quite the awe. It might not be as deserted, and filled with lush green tones, as a lesser known beach elsewhere would be. But this beach stole our hearts, and if you’ll go for a visit,  it will steal yours too.

Brunch & Cake – Barcelona Hotspot

Carved pineapples used as bowls and fluffy green pancakes sounds luscious, right? The restaurant Brunch and Cake, which on its own obtained quite the Instagram fame, offers a brunch one cannot pass on.

Have a look on their Instagram feed here and you’ll get why. Apart from the fact that every plate deserves to have their photo taken at least three times, the food on its own is evenly delicious. The restaurant is open everyday from 09:00 until 22:00 with the same menu throughout the day.

Matcha pancakes $8.90 – Blue Acai Bowl $10.45

They operate with the same mantra as we go through life with: in grandma’s kitchen we trust, and more importantly- it is never to early, or late for that matter, for pancakes.  Keep in mind that this place does get really busy and does not do reservations.

Avo toast $9.35  – Signature pancakes $9.40

We got lucky two times and were seated immediately (yes, we went twice, did we mention we love pancakes) but we saw a lot of queuing up outside. If the suns out, grab a seat outside in their window frame, definitely as chill as it looks.
